Paris.Paris Internationale is celebrating its tenth anniversary.
On this occasion, the fair announces the creation of a strategic committee composed of figures such as Martin Bethenod, former Deputy General Manager of the Bourse de commerce and independent curator, Emanuel Christ, founder and partner of the architecture agency Christ & Gantenbein, Claire Le Restif, Director of the CREDAC in Ivry, Sibylle Loyrette, lawyer, and Michèle Sandoz, General Manager of the Swiss auction house Grisebach. This edition gathers 75 participants from 19 countries. Among them, some loyal exhibitors, such as Chapter NY (New York), presents a series of photographs by René Matic and a new selection of paintings by Willa Nasatir, specially framed for the fair. Derosia (New York), for its part, showcases sculptures by Winona Sloane Odette and abstract paintings by Whitney Claflin. Empty Gallery (Hong Kong) presents a selection of historical works (1970-1990) from the archives of the post-war radical Japanese artist Ohtsubo Kosen, who described his practice as “anti-ikebana”. The Greengrassi gallery (London) juxtaposes gouaches on paper by Felix De Clercq with sculptures by Ana Jotta, while Martins & Montero (São Paulo/Brussels) mixes artworks and design pieces in a deliberately decorative spirit. New galleries are also joining, such as Lo Brutto Stahl (Paris), a contemporary gallery affirming its foundation in tradition and heritage. The series of paintings by Tornike Robakidze is inspired by masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay, paying explicit homage to classical art and the museum’s collections. Tomio Koyama’s display (Tokyo) brings together three artists: Sopheap Pich, Hiroshi Sugito, and Keiji Ito, 88 years old, whose ceramic works are inseparable from his painting practice. Ulrik gallery (New York) highlights Bettina Grossman (1927-2021), a prominent figure of the Chelsea Hotel, through a body of work from the 1960s to 1980s, encompassing painting, engraving, sculpture, film, photography, and writing. The fair remains multigenerational and promotes displays of two or three artists per stand for better readability. For example, Bridget Donahue (New York) juxtaposes the works of Martine Syms, whose first institutional exhibition in France is held at the Fondation Lafayette Anticipations, with new sculptures by Jessi Reaves in collaboration with Crèvecœur (Paris), a pillar of the fair. Among the Parisian galleries, Derouillon, Hussenot, and Parliament are also present. Lastly, Paris Internationale maintains its free entry and continues to cultivate its reputation as a fair where “artists enjoy spending time ” , as highlighted by Silvia Ammon, the fair’s director.
